Mixed Doubles draw revealed

The draw for the largest ever field in the Mixed Doubles Tournament has been made. A record 19 pairs will battle it out to make it to the Mixed Doubles Finals Day on Sunday 21 September. For the first time ever, there will be a Plate competition and the competition is set to be fierce for both accolades.

There are a number of new 'power pairs' featuring in this year's tournament, who look set to shake up the draw.

Pundits are already labelling Group A as the 'group of death.' Defending champions Renée & Mike are pitted against rising stars Ana & Jack, as well as Liz & Chris (Women's first teamer and Men's Doubles finalist respectively). Yash, fresh off a run to the Quarter Finals of the Men's Singles, pairs up with Emma Price again, whilst Hilary & Andrew make their tournament debut.

Group B will see this year's Women's Doubles champions go head-to-head as Asha & Danny take on Alessia & JP, who are pairing up for the first time. JP will also be bidding to complete the 'Doubles Double,' having triumphed in the Men's competition. Lula & Perri will bring some big serves and unpredictability to the group, while Emma & Shahid and Jane & Malcolm will be dangerous opponents.

In Group C, new pair Ros & Robin will bring plenty of power to the court, creating an interesting clash of styles with the guile of Sue & Hernan, who reached last year's final. Katie & Chan, Mandy & Kenny and Lis & Sam will ensure that this group is a tricky one to navigate.

In Group D, Ales & Barbara play together for the first time and will attract a lot of backing from punters. First they must navigate a group that contains 2023 finalists Helen & Francois, fresh off overseeing Bounds Green's promotion-winning season in the Middlesex Winter League Mixed, as well as Lidia & Matty and Debbie & Richard. Richard, the 2024 Men's Singles Plate winner, is recently back from is travels and could be reaching peak form at the right time.

With two pairs from each group making it through to the Quarter Finals, there is everything to play for in the Group Stage. For those wishing to look ahead, the Quarter Finals will see:

  • The winner of Group A play the runner-up of Group C

  • The winner of Group B play the runner-up of Group D

  • The winner of Group C play the runner-up of Group A

  • The winner of Group D play the runner-up of Group B
