After an epic Women's and Men's tournament, featuring 135 singles and doubles matches, played over nearly three months, Finals Day is nearly upon us.
Play will begin at 1.30pm on Sunday 28 June, the Bar will be open and Amelia will be firing up the BBQ. The forecast is for cooler but dry weather, which is just perfect for playing or watching tennis!
The famous Bounds Green BBQ will be open for business! Cashless payment accepted
Although there are still some semifinals to be played, the final match-ups are beginning to take shape. Below we preview what's in store...
Renée v Asha
Women's Singles, 1.30pm
Defending champion Renée faces serial winner Asha in a repeat of the 2025 final, where Renée just came out on top in a three set thriller. To reach this stage, Asha defeated her doubles partner, Ana, in an impressive semifinal performance. Renée also had to navigate a match against her doubles partner, Ros, in the blazing sun on the hottest June day on record. This match could be one for the ages...
Ales v Robin
Men's Singles, 130pm
Ales and Robin came through a Men's Singles draw which was beset by injuries to set up a repeat of the 2024 Final. Ales will be seeking his fourth consecutive title, in an impressive streak of dominance. This year both men had to survive scares on the way to the Final, with Ales taken to a final set by both Achilles and Lukas, and Robin edging match tiebreaks against Sammy and Francois.
Harper v Beth
Women's Singles Plate, not before 2.30pm
The first ever Bounds Green Women's Singles Plate competition will see junior Harper take on new member Beth. Both have impressed with their strong singles play and are undoubtedly rising stars of the Bounds Green tennis scene. Expect to see both players going far in the main draw next year.
Hernan v Sammy
Men's Singles Plate, not before 2.30pm
2022 winner Hernan returns to Plate action against young gun Sammy in what promises to be an intriguing clash of styles. Sammy qualified for the Plate after a heartbreaking loss to Robin, in a contest where he held match points. Meanwhile Hernan was edged out of a tight all-Argentinian contest against JP. This is not the first time Hernan and Sammy have met in the club tournament, with Hernan just edging a match tiebreak in a contest match which could have gone either way. Will this year be different?
Renée & Ros v Barbara & Helen OR Linda & Mandy
Women's Doubles, not before 3.30pm and after suitable rest
2023 winners Renée & Ros have rekindled their partnership this year and made it all the way back to the final, overcoming Ana & Asha in a high quality semi. They will face either Barbara & Helen or Linda & Mandy, who play their semifinal on the morning of Finals Day, so the winner will either be warmed up for the final or tired: we'll let you decide which!
Helen & Barbara will be hoping to reach the final for the third year in succession. Meanwhile Linda & Mandy have formed one of the surprise packages of this year's tournament, represent the Women's Second Team with style.
Ales & JP v Danny & Francois OR Hernan & Mike
Men's Doubles, not before 3.30pm and after suitable rest
Ales & JP have reached the final for the third time in four years. They'll be hoping to add to their titles in 2023 and 2025. The semifinal saw them edge past last year's finalists Chris & Robin in two close sets. They will face either Danny & Francois or Hernan & Mike, whose semifinal takes place on Friday evening. Danny & Francois are bidding to reach their second final as a partnership, while Hernan & Mike will be hoping to reach their first doubles final since 2024, when they won the trophy.
Unfortunately the Doubles Plate Finals Evening has been postponed due to the extreme heat warning. It has been rearranged for Friday 4 September. We will preview the match-ups nearer the time.
