A bumper crowd watched an amazing 49 participants battled it out in our inaugural One Point Slam as the Bounds Green summer of tennis opened with a bang. The crowds were entertained by music from DJ Roberto and commentary from Jack, as well as some breathtaking high stakes tennis.

The shocks came thick and fast. Ros set the tone by taking out Roberto, sending him sprawling across the court in a desperate attempt to stay in the point. Men’s first teamers Phil, Jack and Mike joined Roberto in making an early exit before Francois shocked James with an underarm serve and exquisite lob combo.
The big names continued to fall with Ros, Hernan, Mario and Sammy exiting in round 2. Meanwhile Amelia, Michael and Bill made stealthy progress through the draw. The semifinals saw Ana take out Robin and JP edge past Asha, setting up a battle of the sexes in the final.

James and Roberto played an exhibition point before the final, with James wowing the crowd with a massive serve to edge it.
The final was a tense affair, with Ana prevailing. A big thank you to James for donating a private lesson which goes to Ana as the winner. JP scoops a £25 bar voucher, which should help keep him hydrated as the summer progresses
The tournament also saw some brilliant play from our talented juniors. Dominic eliminated first-teamer Phil but it was Carsen, Jacob and Rafa who tied as the juniors who went furthest in the tournament. They played three-way tiebreaker in which Carsen prevailed, taking home a £15 Amazon voucher.
The sun shone for a season opener and Amelia’s afternoon tea kept the crowds well-nourished. Bring on the summer!
