The Mixed Doubles tournament has reached the quarterfinals stage, following a summer of tight tennis, played (for the main) in glorious sunshine. The beginning of knockout tennis seems to have coincided with the arrival of wet weather, so keep an eye on the club WhatsApp channel for rearrangements. You can also keep track of all the action, including match dates and scores, by accessing our live match tracker.
Group A saw defending champions Renée & Mike take top spot, following wins over Hilary & Andrew, Emma & Yash, Liz and Chris and Ana & Jack. The battle for second place was a nailbiter, going right to the final day of the group stages. Ultimately Ana & Jack just edged it on game difference. Hilary & Andrew, Emma & Yash and Liz and Chris all qualify for the plate.
Group B saw Alessia & JP clinch top spot with a win over Asha & Danny in damp conditions. Both pairs had already completed wins over Jane & Malcolm and Emma & Shahid, both of whom for the Plate.
Group C see saw a rollercoaster of a match between Sue & Hernan and Ros & Robin, which the former just edging it 10-8 in the match tiebreak. Mandy & Kenny, Lis & Sam and Katie & Chan all qualify for the Plate.
Group D saw Barbara & Ales take control early on, with a win over Helen & Francois, who came second and also qualify for the quarterfinals. Lidia & Matty qualify for the Plate. Sadly, a long-term injury to Debbie meant that her and Richard were unable to compete. Richard will play in the plate with a new partner, Susie.

Knockouts commence!
The quarterfinals see some mouthwatering clashes. Ros & Robin take on Renée & Mike in a match which is sure to feature big-hitting and plenty of net play. Alessia & JP will look to continue their impressive start as a partnership against longstanding pair Helen & Francois, the finalists in 2023.
Meanwhile the other half of the draw will see Sue & Hernan continuing their bid to make it back to the final against Ana & Jack. First time pair Barbara & Ales will seek to continue their impressive form in an eagerly anticipated clash against Asha & Danny. This one is sure to attract a big crowd, so look out for match details on WhatsApp and be sure to get there early to secure a good seat!

New Plate promises intriguing and fun competition
In a Bounds Green first, we are also running a Mixed Doubles Plate competition, involving all those pairs who didn’t qualify for the knockout phase from their groups. Early favourites include rising stars Emma & Yash and Susie & Richard, as well as wily club veterans Liz & Chris and new pair Mandy & Kenny.
The Plate competition kicks off with Hilary & Andrew playing Emma & Shahid for a place in the quarterfinals. The winner will play Mandy & Kenny. The other quarter finals see Liz & Chris play Lis & Sam, Susie & Richard play Jane & Malcolm and Emma & Yash take on Lidia & Matty.
